Work Package 7.
Climate Knowledge Exchange
Work Package 7 is Led by Co-PI Van Berkel working with Co-PIs Blocher and Nkiko, Co-Applicant Lemos and local case city teams to promote knowledge xchange and co-production between frontline participants, partners and collaborators in case cities and beyond.
Knowledge Exchange Platform
Work Package 7 aims to foster exchange of climate adaptation experiences and co-produce solutions for climate migration and related socio-economic vulnerabilities (SEVs). It promotes knowledge exchange and co-production between stakeholders in Lake Victoria Basin (LVB) (Possible Pilot – Dar es Salaam) and Great Lake Region cities, plus Birmingham (UK) and Berlin (Germany) (South-North & South-South Exchange).
Each case city will share urban growth scenarios, migration risks, and adaptation strategies obtained from the PIVOT tool. Results will be available online for public viewing. Additionally, workshops will enhance the ability of institutions, local authorities, and government ministries to generate and exchange relevant data.
Climate Migration Infographic Platform
Using the workshops, wp7 will co-produce with participants a climate-migration infographic platform to host knowledge exchange case-studies on the CLARS’ website. The platform will showcase LVB and GLR city practices that have been successful in managing and reducing socioeconomic vulnerabilities and building resilience for climate migrants and host communities scross both case Lakes-regions. The horizontal integration and collaborative working of stakeholders/participants at these workshops will provide insights to urban policy planners and decision-makers.It will showcase successful strategies from LVB and GLR cities for managing climate migration and SEVs. It provides urban policy planners with insights on managing emergency responses, planning for climate migrants, and fostering participatory governance.
Implementation.
WP7 connects migrants, city planners, policy makers, academics and practitioners within and across LVB and GLR case countries to learn from each other’s experiences and adoptable solutions and policies for climate migration within both lakes-regions. The team will run face-to-race knowledge exchange workshops (months 28-33) in each of the 5 case cities plus Birmingham (UK) and Berlin (Germany) to showcase the climate adaptation experiences (WP1-5) and resilience strategies on how to cope with migration risks and SEVs (WP 6). These workshops will offer feedback to stakeholders/participants engagement activities especially those that will have participated in WPs 1-5. Partners from each case city will visit and share their migration risks, SEVs and experiences to other regions. This will allow sharing of evidence-based results, information and good practices between cities and stakeholders to learn and adapt to specific geographical environments. Importantly, the South-North and South-South Knowledge Exchange inigration experiences from LVB cities will be invaluable for GLR cities facing the potential of being the recipients of climate migration. Workshops will share the data for each case city (WP 5), allowing partners and collaborators to understand and contextualize the different perspectives and adaptation strategies over the gradient of migration experiences; real in LVR and potential in GLR. This will also provide various opportunities for capacity-building for institutions such as local authorities and government ministries to generating knowledge and exchanging relevant and usable data and information using PIVOT. The result of the PIVOT models will be available online for the public to view.
