Strategic Policy Recommendations

The primary objective of WP8 is to generate strategic policy recommendations that enhance protection and resilience for those who move in the context of climate change, disasters, and environmental degradation and host communities in LVB and GRL. This will be achieved through a comprehensive review of existing policies and legal frameworks on the topic in each case country, as well as at the regional level. This process will not only facilitate the identification of innovative practices and gaps in current domestic instruments but also provide actionable recommendations for enhancing and informing policy development at both levels. With the input of distinct stakeholders, these actionable recommendations will inform adaptive, coherent, and inclusive strategies addressing the climate change-human mobility nexus.

Objectives.

  • Best Practices. .

Systematically map and review existing policies and legal frameworks on the distinct dimensions of human mobility (migration, displacement, and planned relocation) in the context of climate change, disasters, and environmental degradation across the LVB and GLR case countries.

Identify innovative best practices that enhance the protection of those on the move due to environmental reasons, with special attention to human and labor rights, while also identifying existing gaps.

  • Engage Stakeholders.

Engage stakeholders in co-producing actionable recommendations that promote policy coherence across climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, migration governance, and human rights protection.

  • Incorporate findings.

Provide policymakers with strategic recommendations on how to incorporate socioeconomic vulnerabilities into legal and policy instruments to enhance the management of ‘climate-induced migration’ and related challenges

Impact

Deliverables from WP8 include:

1. Longlist of legal and policy options: Comprehensive collection of policies and legal frameworks, as well as identified best practices and innovative approaches for managing ‘climate-induced migration’ across LVB and GLR regions.

2. Policy briefs: Synthesized results from the policy and legal review per country, outlining critical insights and initial recommendations. To be shared with stakeholders in workshops and dialogues.

3. Strategic policy recommendations: With the consultation of stakeholders, co-produced recommendations focusing on integrating socioeconomic vulnerabilities with the protection of climate-induced migrants rights, designed to inform national and regional frameworks.
